Mirabilis jalapa Sun-inspired colors yellow and pink to brighten your garden! Four o’clocks are among the most colorful, robust flowers you can easily grow from seed. Direct seed or sow into pots or barrels. Grows 12-36 inches tall; shorter in pots, and taller in the garden. Blooms throughout the afternoon from late summer until hard frost.
Growing Notes Sow indoors 4-5 weeks before last frost or direct seed after danger of frost. Sow seed 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep, 4-6 inches apart; thin to 12-18 inches apart. Blooms in 70-80 days from planting. In frost-free zones, they can be left in the ground year-round as a perennial, growing larger over the years. Where it freezes, the bulbous roots can be lifted in the fall before a killing frost and replanted in spring for rapidly growth and quick color. Seed can also be fall planted, when it is too cold to germinate seeds and soil temperatures are below 45 degrees F; the seed will lay dormant through the winter.
