Phaseolus vulgaris (80-85 days) You will be gifted with plump, dark red, beans very similar to the kidney bean, for use in chili, refried beans, and humus. Originally grown along the Missouri River Valley of North Dakota by the Hidatsa tribe, this bean was introduced by Oscar H. Will & Co. in Bismarck, ND as part of his 1915 Pioneer Indian Collection. Semi-vining, this productive bush plant will climb to three feet if given support. One of the most productive dry beans available for prodigious harvest and long-term storage of high quality, high protein staples.

Direct-seed. Planting Depth: 1 inch. Plant spacing: 2 inches. Row spacing of 36-48 inches. Semi-vining habit 3 feet; optional trellis for support. Increase yields by inoculating where natural Rhizobia is low. Soil Temp. for Germ.: 60-80°F. Days to Germ.: 6-10 days. Full sun. Moderate moisture.
