(Lactuca sativa) (28 days baby; 50 days full) Exceptionally early green leaf lettuce and the most widely grown. Waldmann’s is a pre-1880 heirloom. A highly productive lettuce considered a standard for commercial growing. Produces large, slightly savoyed, green leaves forming loose, open heads with uniform stands; similar to Grand Rapids lettuce. Excellent for home gardeners, market growers, greenhouses, and field production.
Growing Notes
Direct seeding: Sow in full sun in early spring for first crop, in late summer for fall crop. Sow thinly in rows 12" apart, cover with 1/4" of fine soil, firm lightly; keep evenly moist. For transplants: Start 6 weeks before tranplanting date. Emergence: 6-10 days. Resistant to tip burn.
