Ground Cherry: Aunt Molly's
CERTIFIED ORGANIC SEED, 1 packet (50 seeds)
Physalis pruinosa (65-70 days) Easy-to-grow, prolific, and oh-so-sweet 3/8-1/2" ground cherry. Turns a golden yellow color when ripe inside a papery tan colored husk that protects the fruit. You'll know they're ripe when they fall to the ground.
Great for pies, preserves, ice cream topping, compote, fresh-fruit salads, smoothies, or a 'pop-in-your- mouth' treat. This beloved variety was unnamed until the original founders of Territorial Seed named it after their dog and first business, Aunt Molly's Ice Cream Treats.
Growing Notes
Plant ground cherry seed indoors 1⁄4" deep 6-8 weeks before typical last spring frost date. Transplant to 3-4" pots after first true leaves appear. Strong lighting and cooler temps between 60-70°F keep plants from getting leggy. Plant out with at least 2' spacing when the danger of frost has passed; can be buried up to the top 2 sets of leaves. Excellent results when grown on landscape cloth, which suppresses weeds and makes collecting the fruits easier. Ripe when papery husk has dried and turned a tan color and fruit has fallen to the ground.
