CERTIFIED ORGANIC SEED, 1 packet (25 seeds)

Solanum melongena
(80 days) A classic Italian heirloom variety first introduced in 1902. Recognized world-wide as the standard for large-fruited black eggplant. Pear-shaped 6-9” deep purple fruits turn glossy and black when mature, averaging 2 lbs. Bushy 30” tall plants with strong branches, holding fruit well off the ground. Common in Italian, Indian, Chinese and Japanese cuisine, offering many delicious recipe options.

Growing Notes
Sow seeds indoors 8-12 weeks before last frost date in warm soil and a warm location. These heat loving plants germinate best at 85°F. Plant 1⁄4” deep in well drained soil. Can sow thickly in flats and transplant. Plant outdoors after danger of frost when daytime temps are near 70°F. Space 18- 24" between plants and 30-36" between rows. Optimal soil pH is 6.5-7. Eggplant is a heavy feeder but if over fertilized, they’ll grow lots of foliage but produce less fruit.
